In-School Questionairres

ASK YOURSELF: Does your school administer this type of questionnaire? In what grades do they administer questionnaires? Where does the collected data go? Who has access to the data? How is the data used? At what level is it anonymous?

**********

In-school surveys take time away from learning to collect data from your child. Know what surveys your school participates in and what questions they are asking.  If you are not okay with this, you will likely need to OPT OUT! Read all materials coming home so that you know what is happening and if you don’t hear about surveys, ASK about surveys.

Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS)

Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Agency conducts a survey of school students in the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades to learn about their behavior, attitudes and knowledge concerning alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and violence. The ‘Pennsylvania Youth Survey,’ or PAYS, is sponsored and conducted every two years by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Youth Risk Behavior Survey

The Pennsylvania Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is part of the National Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System created and managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor health-risk behaviors of the nation’s high school students. These behaviors, in turn, result in the most significant causes of both mortality and morbidity during youth and adulthood. The behaviors monitored by the Pennsylvania YRBS include traffic safety; weapons and violence; suicide; tobacco use; alcohol and other drug use; sexual behavior; and diet, nutrition, and exercise.
