More Argentine Cities Prohibits the Installation of 5G Antennas Before Health Safety is Established
From La Nacion:
The city of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, joined the list of four municipalities in the country that resolved to prohibit the installation of antennas for 5G communications technology Until there are scientific and environmental studies that guarantee the safety of the radiation linked to these devices that promise to exponentially optimize the speed and volume of data exchange.
The municipality of the Fuegian capital, by the mayor Walter Vuoto, in fact promulgated ordinance 6317, sanctioned by the Deliberative Council on December 6, where establishes the city as a “ radiation-free zone from fifth generation communications technology (5G) and all data transmission technology from subsequent generations ”, indicates the text that Télam accessed.
The reasons for Ushuaia’s decision
The initiative was promoted by members of the group Organized Citizens to Regulate Telecommunications ( CORTE ) which has references in Tierra del Fuego. The standard prohibits 5G “ until medical, scientific and epidemiological studies are presented that demonstrate the total safety of these radiations ”.
It also mentions that studies that in the future they are presented, to repeal the ordinance, must be “endorsed by the recommendations not opposed to each other, of the World Health Organization ( WHO ), the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields ( ICBE-EMF ) and the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology ( STOA ) of the Europarliament”.
According to the measure, the municipality “will not issue any type of work authorization, installation or similar for the deployment of the technology” by empire of “precautionary principle in health and environment”.
Among its foundations, the prohibition indicates that in the country “ there are no studies that ensure the safety of radio frequency radiation from cellular telecommunications, for long-term exposed citizens ”.
The other municipalities that do not allow 5G
The Corte association documented during the legislative debate that several municipal states of the world sanctioned similar ordinances, and that in Argentina there are similar regulations “ in the Comuna de Lechmann (Santa Fe), Gualeguaychú (Entre Ríos), Azul (Buenos Aires) and Mount Chapel (Córdoba)”. In the case of Gualeguaychú, the norm was reversed a week ago, and the municipality may incorporate 5G antennas.
“ Not that we want to ban progress. There are many people who do not understand that this technology was not tested and that it has already brought problems in some places ”, said Alejandra Guerrero, a member of Corte in Tierra del Fuego. The leader announced that a similar project was presented to the Deliberative Council of the city of Río Grande, in the provincial north, and is “ under analysis ”.

Last October, the National Communications Entity (Enacom) formalized the award of frequency bands for the provision of 5G services in the country to the companies Telecom, AMX (which operates under the commercial name Claro), and Telefónica (Movistar), through resolution 1473/2023. The former Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, then indicated that each company will invest around US $ 1 billion in the deployment of antennas and fiber optics necessary to provide services with this type of technology, beyond the 850 million dollars collected in the tender.
