DO WHAT YOU’RE TOLD’s first large-scale billboard campaign is underway in Philadelphia
Do What You’re Told™, a Substack newsletter/news site that aggregates independent — and often suppressed — news & views from all over the web and social media, proudly announces its first guerrilla-marketing style billboard campaign.
From Jan. 30, 2024, DWYT an organization that is a collaborator with CHD-PA has leased 7 billboards (3 static and 4 digital) around the city of Philadelphia. The billboards appear north and southbound along I95 and in Center City on 676.
Why billboards? DWYT created the online newsletter in order to help people find what they may not even know they’re looking for: truthful independent journalism. By advertising on physical, accessible media, like billboards, DWYT reaches everyone. Going analog with advertising also negates the issues of social media censorship and online distraction.
DWYT: Independent media’s megaphone— As an aggregator of independent news, Do What You’re Told is here to amplify not compete with indie news outlets.
“There are so many people in the independent media space who are creating great content. We didn’t want to create more content. We just wanted to point people to these strong, alternative voices,” explains company founder and former mainstream media journalist, Jennifer Buhl.
DWYT cites non-mainstream media sources like Michael Shellenberger, Whitney Webb, The Free Press, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Children’s Health Defense, Matt Taibbi, Vandana Shiva, Link Lauren, Russell Brand, Jessica Reed Kraus, Reclaim the Net, James Corbett and more.
“By advertising DWYT on billboards all around Philly, we are advertising independent journalists on billboards all around Philly,” says Buhl.
We hope you’ll join our growing movement! In 2024, DWYT is focused on developing partnerships with truth-based, independent media outlets so we can offer an un-paywalled experience to our subscribers.
Additionally, DWYT is adding like-minded sponsors to our newsletters and billboard campaigns. Please reach out if you’re looking to grow your collaborations, or if you want to hear more about billboard and newsletter sponsorships.
