Demand Smart Meter Opt-Out in Pennsylvania
With over a decade of an enforced smart meter mandate by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), thousands of consumer complaints for the right to a smart meter opt-out have been denied. Pennsylvania is the only state in which the PUC is enforcing a smart meter mandate – despite a plethora of evidence demonstrating smart meter health hazards. Join us consumer choice advocates to demand a smart meter opt-out in PA.
Smart meters emit radiofrequency (RF) radiation, which has been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Everyone in the vicinity of smart meters is exposed to their pulsed RF emissions 24/7, every day of the year. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to RF radiation can lead to various health issues, particularly in young children whose bodies are still developing and in vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
We believe that every resident should have the right to choose whether or not they want a smart meter installed in their home. We are appealing this right to the Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA), which represents Pennsylvania utility customer interests in cases before the PUC. Request that the OCA represent utility customers demanding consumer choice for a safe, long-lived analog meter with no RF emissions.
PUC: Your mission is “to protect the public interest and educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices.” Your disregard for hundreds of formal smart meter complaints filed shows that you care about the PA utilities, now show us that you also care about the public interest. No one should be forced to have a 2-way microwave radio (i.e. smart meter) attached to their homes.
Take Action
By signing this petition, you will help us urge the OCA to represent Pennsylvania utility customers demanding smart meter choice. Your support will also prod the Pennsylvania General Assembly to pass smart meter choice legislation: House Bill 1202, which is stuck in the House Consumer Protection, Technology and Utilities Committee. Please sign this petition if you are a Pennsylvania resident who wants the choice to protect yourself, family, and/or neighbor from potential health risks associated with smart meters.
