PENNSYLVANIA: Take Action on Hazardous Smart Meters
Smart and digital utility meters are actively being deployed and mandated across Pennsylvania without adequately informing consumers of the health, safety and privacy risks. In some cases, this is happening without notification or consent.
Unlike electromechanical analog meters which have been safely used for decades, smart meters and (some) digital meters emit toxic levels of pulsed radiofrequency (RF) radiation, are fire hazards and enable companies to sell near real-time private usage data to third parties.
To mandate these utility meters is unacceptable – where there is risk, there must be choice!
Fortunately, House Bill 1202 is moving through the PA House of Representatives which will protect our families and allow utility meter choice.

Better yet make a personal appeal to your elected official especial if your story involves personal injury regarding this technology.
NOTE: If you live in Beaver County and your representative is Robert F. Matzie or Jim Marshall, your voice is more powerful than ever on this issue, as these two gentlemen are the leaders in charge of the House Consumer Protection, Technology, and Utilities Committee. These two men have the power to block this bill from coming to a vote in the House, and they appear to be doing just that currently.
Consider emailing and following up with a phone call and always remember to be respectful and polite. Tell them you expect to see them allow the PA House of Representatives to vote on this important issue.
Snail mail is also an excellent way to get your representative’s attention. Here is a draft letter you can model your concerns for either a written or emailed communication.
